A high-risk pregnancy is one that has associated factors that can negatively affect the health of the mother or fetus. 10% of pregnancies are considered high risk.
Some of the mother diseases includes hypertension, diabetes, obesity, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, immune diseases, mental disorders, cancer, heart problems or sexually transmitted diseases...
Fetal problems such as malformations, growth delay or threat of preterm birth can also complicate pregnancy.
Additionally, having had a premature birth, a low-birth-weight baby, or a cesarean section can also increase the risk in subsequent pregnancies.
Other risk factors include a family history of genetic diseases or miscarriage.
These pregnancies require specific and individualized follow-up.
